Off topic: Setting up GPS for the Blackberry 8800 (T-mobile)

Geek post coming up. Having just acquired the BlackBerry 8800 with GPS, I try it out. The GPS recognizes satellites, movement etc. but no bbmaps. I do a little internet hunting and the online consensus appears to be that my problem is with the TCP settings in Options/Advanced Options. My default APN is internet.com, with password and username blank, and that is no good. The post I find suggests a T-mobile setting, but that too is duff.

So I call the oxymoronic T-mobile Support line and — on my third attempt — ask them what the T-mobile APN setting should be to get my GPS working. They don’t know and ask their crackberry support team. After “an internet search” (!) they tell me the problem is something to do with the TCP and APN settings, but this is BlackBerry’s problem not theirs and they really don’t know. They give me a toll number for BlackBerry in the US.

I do another online search and find APN: general.t-mobile.uk, password and username left blank. This works, and I hope it works for you.
