Blog FAQ

Blog FAQ

Q1 When did you start and why?

I started this blog on 22 October, 2006 on Blogger. It was an effort to demonstrate two things to myself: 1) that I could actually write regularly, and 2) grapple personally with some of the micro-niggles of maintaining an online space.

Q2 What do you blog about?

Chiefly about the news business and the media - the organisations, the people, the technology, the politics and what’s being reported. Just hit the ‘search’ box. I know it’s too wide an area, but…

My main interest remains stories - about energy, climate, population, technology and the future - I tend to blog about them under ‘Off Topic.’ Oh, and pigs.

Q3 Do the opinions expressed here reflect those of your employers past or present?

Sometimes they don’t even reflect my own.

Q4 Any disclosures?

The censorship on this blog is all of the self-imposed variety. I own pitifully few shares in Sky, have an ITN pension and I pay the BBC licence fee. I consult - which involves signing NDAs. That’s life.

Q5 Can I trust this blog?

What you really means is ‘How reliable is this blog?’ About as reliable as something produced and edited by one distracted individual. I try and link to what I write about. Go check.

Q6 Would you kindly ‘big up’ my product or company?

The tone of this blog is not suited to boosterism, but thank you for your interest.

Q7 I like the look of your blog. Was it lovingly hand-coded?

I did all of it. Except for the bit I bought off-the-shelf from designer Chris Pearson. This particular template is called Thesis, and very nice it is too.

The default text font is Georgia, and the heads are in Rockwell, although I’d prefer to use Archer.

The colour palette is themed around hex #D56A00 (RGB 213, 106, 0). Don’t ask why I started there. I just did.
