The Only Living Anglican In Baghdad

Radio can — occasionally — be very special. Trust me. This really is worth half an hour of your time. It’s Michael Buerk interviewing the only Anglican priest in Baghdad, Canon Andrew White — well, the only one not wearing dog tags with his dog collar.

White is grappling with the later stages of MS, so his voice sounds like you would after a couple of stiff gin and tonics.

Don’t get me wrong. He’s no stranger to publicity. And quite probably a pain in the arse. And quite probably hard on his loved ones. A bit like some foreign correspondents of my acquaintance, except with added God.

But it’s an extraordinary and special interview. And I like difficult people. (God knows, I might even be one.)

Pour yourself a glass of something and listen here.
