Be careful what you wish for…Newsnight (a UK version of Nightline) secured an interview with Madonna which aired last night.

You can see the tag-line: when a hard-nosed interviewer meets a woman used to being crucified on video – the sparks fly!

Madonna and anchor Kirsty Wark discussed the singer’s adoption of a young Malawian boy, filmed against the backdrop of a candlelit boudoir inspired perhaps by a Kate Bush video from circa 1980.

Instead of Scottish enlightenment, their encounter was more no-score draw: Caledonian thistle, nil; Queen of the Pop, nil.

It’s not like Newsnight has to suck up to St Madge for regular access. There are no embeds with Madonna. The bravest, most newsworthy thing Newsnight could have done, would have been to drop it.
