In case you’re a broadcast exec tempted to get the consultants in, here’s the latest blue-sky thinking straight out of the box, finger-in-the-air style:
- Fundamental restructuring is occurring in every industry sector, and some sectors, like broadcast television and music, could emerge from this period far different from what they are today (No kidding!)
- Mass audiences are giving way to finely segmented channels (So it’s not still the 1950s)
- Business models based purely on advertising revenue are losing ground to subscriber-based or hybrid models (There’s a squeeze on ad revenue apparently)
- Competition and globalization are fostering consolidation and vertical integration (So theoretically an Australian could own companies around the world?)
