A BBC film featuring Taranissi and presented by Robert Winston aired on 18 December 2006. It was part of the series Whatever It Takes. Foreshortened BBC current affairs flagship Panorama is beginning its new mini-slot by going after British IVF millionaire Mohamed Taranissi, recently slated by UK regulators, the HFEA.
I’m an IVF parent, and my mortgage is now a good deal bigger – thanks for asking. So do I care? Not much.
Anyone can see the stats. Conception probabilities decline as you age, there is no magic – they’re listed here. If a clinic wants to manipulate the figures, then it doesn’t treat older women or difficult cases. No brainer.
So my sense of outrage is limited.
Although billed as Britain’s richest doctor, Taranissi‘s fortune would barely make it in the City or business generally. But finance is ‘complicated‘.
Complicated…will we be seeing much of that on the new Panorama?
