James Bays

Old hollow legs himself is alive and well, after becoming a brief guest of the Taliban. The Al Jazeera English reporter found himself the story for a while, along with three Afghan colleagues:

Afghan militants capture, release Al-Jazeera journalists

Militants in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province captured four journalists of Arab television network the Al-Jazeera and set them free after one day in captivity on Wednesday, a member of the team said Thursday.

“We were on a road in Gereshk district when some masked and armed men took us to a village where hundreds of armed militants were present,” Ahmad Bukhari told Xinhua.

The militants, he added, first took their cameras and other equipment but later on returned after investigation.

“During the 26-hour in captivity, the militants provided food and treated well,” Bukhari said.

Meantime, a man Qari Yusuf Ahmadi who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit said that the journalists were set free in line with the movement’s leadership decision.

James files a typically understated report here.

  1. Al-Jazeera English does truly give you a true, accurate and correct 360 degree perspective of the world.

    • Yeah right. Have a brain and realize that every bit of news you get is not unbiased.

  2. James, I have been following some of your reports on Afghan presidential candidates, and I have seen some extra Aljazeera love for Dr. Abdullah Abdullah. What’s up with that?
