Should public service broadcasters pay vastly inflated salaries to entertainers, in opposition to every other branch of public service? Dutch culture minister Ronald Plasterk doesn’t think so.
He wants to limit the cash handed over to presenters on state television. According to Hollywood Reporter, Plasterk believes:
the maximum fee should be no more than €200k (£158k) a year. Currently an annual salary of €400k – €500k (£316k – £396k) is paid to some of the better-known presenters, sports commentators and show hosts.
Dutch talent (Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, anyone?) could just migrate, of course…and they’ll never get Jonathan Ross with that kind of money. (For Dutch speakers , more here)
