What TV stories online tell you about the future

Channel 4 News, the UK TV news industry’s favourite TV news programme, provides an excellent example of the problems of single platform media translating to the web.

They have letters which seem to back up claims that the US State Department did warn of serious repercussions to US/UK intelligence sharing. Great catch. How does it look online?

Not your TV story...

Now ask yourself about the future of news provision on British television. The truth is it can’t survive to do this kind of thing properly without a much more radical rethink about platforms, alliances and ownership. And yet this is nowhere mentioned in any debate on public service broadcasting. Think about it.

  1. Funnily enough, my legions of researchers here at Polis are currently working on precisely that issue of online public service provision – and we hope to team up on this vital area of inquiry with a certain PSB not a million miles from Victoria… stay tuned.

  2. That it is a feeble online presentation of a TV news story… and that C4N would benefit from being part of something bigger that had the capacity to invest in presenting its journalism more effectively on other platforms.
