The Guardian‘s Media Monkey was equally unimpressed with Jon Manel‘s cake activity:
With the judging process about to begin for this year’s Sony awards, Monkey’s attention turns to Today reporter Jon Manel’s effort last week, in which he illustrated a piece about the NHS budgetary “cake” … with a cake.
In Manel’s defence, he has twice retrieved information from the black hole that is Guantanamo – once from Fawzi al-Odah, and once via a secretly recorded exchange that aired on Broadcasting House:
Detainee: “Are you journalists?… Can we talk to you?”
BBC: “We are from BBC Television. We are from BBC TV.”
Detainee: “Thank you very much. I’ve been a long time waiting for you here.”
BBC: “Sorry?”
Detainee: “I’ve been a long time waiting for you here. It’s amazing for us.”
Officer: “Jon, you need to leave… We’re going to end the tour right now. Either you keep moving or we’re going to end it.”
