They quote <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ukgroup.omd.com\/mgomd\/people\/mark_gallagher.html\">Mark Gallagher<\/a><\/span>, press director at media strategists <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Manning Gottlieb OMD<\/span>. Seems like a decent chap. Media strategist, though? What is <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Manning Gottlieb<\/span> and why are they with <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark<\/span>? Ah, they buy ad space. Not so much strategists in the classic <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">McKinsey<\/span> sense then&#8230;but at least Mark knows what makes people read papers. Crosswords.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;Crosswords mirror what newspapers are all about &#8211; they&#8217;re thought-provoking,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;News channels report news. Newspapers, however, offer more comment and so are a more engaging medium &#8211; puzzles therefore fit naturally into that. And the clear benefit to publishers and advertisers is that they increase the time a reader spends with a paper and generate a considerable degree of loyalty &#8211; more so than many columnists, in my view.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I hope the clients get this kind of advice &#8211; I&#8217;m really excited about seeing the first <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ximenean <\/span>ad campaign&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Check out the Indy explaining why people read newspapers.
