I&#8217;m watching a revoiced package from the French channel on <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Le Salon du Chocolat<\/span>. Here&#8217;s how the Frenchness manifests itself:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On chocolate <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">haute couture<\/span> creations: <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">&#8220;They represent the bringing together of French know-how.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>A profile begins: <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">&#8220;This France-loving woman is Cesaria Evora.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The weather warns of widespread <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">&#8220;inclemency<\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Aside from the pretty dreadful Google translate issues, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">France 24<\/span>&#8216;s Anglo version is basically <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Euronews<\/span> with cheap anchors and cheap sets interspersed with overly repeated, over-long segments. Correspondent two-ways with Moscow and Beirut feel odd.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Andrea Sanke<\/span>&#8216;s debate on the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Iraq Study Group<\/span> has some <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">very<\/span> low wattage guests&#8230;she&#8217;s ex-<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">CNN<\/span> (via Germany and London) and may be adequate at link-reading, but on this showing she certainly can&#8217;t carry a half-hour debate on foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p>The circular debate set is cold and everyone&#8217;s too far apart. Remote guests are cut in horribly. The framing stinks. The audio sucks. It&#8217;s a tough watch. Only interesting moment for me was hearing from a French ForPol analyst &#8211; when they eventually cut his mike up. And Andrea crashes out into a commercial break. I&#8217;m guessing the gallery crew don&#8217;t <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">couper la moutarde<\/span> either.<\/p>\n<p>And now we&#8217;re back again at the <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Salon du Chocolat<\/span>. Drawing board. Back.
