It deals with two problems for journalists in Russia. One is getting killed for speaking out in public. The other is being ignored.<\/p>\n<p>Back in October, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">John Lloyd<\/span> wrote this about the Russian media:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Russian television is now feel-good television &#8211; the programming reflecting the sense, at least among the growing middle classes, that life is becoming ever more materially richer.<\/p>\n<p>In that atmosphere, public consciences like that of Anna Politkovskaya attract at least indifference and irritation &#8211; at worst, the fate that met her in the hall of her flat block<\/span> [<a href=\"http:\/\/commentisfree.guardian.co.uk\/john_lloyd\/2006\/10\/post_495.html\">Guardian<\/a>]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> Indifference and irritation &#8211; they&#8217;re not the natural components of <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">virt\u00f9<\/span>, but they are familiar.
