Here’s the basic division of opinion on Nick Robinson<\/span>.<\/p>\n

1) GO GET ‘EM<\/span><\/p>\n

Chicago Tribune:<\/span><\/a> We American reporters aren’t sure why our British cousins don’t stand when they ask questions of our president or their prime minister like we do.<\/span><\/p>\n

But they sure have a suave way of asking the impertinent questions we reporters are duty bound to ask the powerful…<\/span><\/p>\n

2) DON’T BECOME THE STORY<\/span><\/p>\n

CBS Public Eye:<\/span><\/a> There is something to be said for confrontation, and a press corps that doesn’t ask hard questions does the public a disservice. But there is a difference between asking a hard question in a polite way \u2013 perhaps with a polite but firm follow up or two \u2013 and offering up a petulant statement…which amounted to “why don’t you just admit you’re an insincere liar who doesn’t see reality, huh, Bushie?” <\/span><\/p>\n

…just as a good reporter has to ask the right questions, he has to ask them in the right way. And by making what amounted to a little speech, the reporter shifted the spotlight to himself and elicited nothing more than a testy dismissal from the president.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
