The griefer managed to assault the CNET theater for 15 minutes with &#8211; well, there&#8217;s no way to say this delicately &#8211; animated flying penises.<\/span><span class=\"dropcaps\">S<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">econd Life<\/span> &#8211; let the backlash begin. Back in December, the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Second Life<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/news.com.com\/Virtual+land+magnate+shares+secrets+of+her+success\/2008-1043_3-6144967.html\" target=\"_blank\">flying genitalia attack<\/a> gave some indication of the kind of behaviour we in the real world call &#8216;anti-social.&#8217; There was also a creepy &#8216;rape&#8217; screenshot that ran on  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gawker.com\/news\/second-life\/second-life-rape-for-sale-222099.php\">Gawker<\/a> &#8211; apparently from <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">SL<\/span> &#8211; of the kind we call repugnant and disturbing.<a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/static.instructables.com\/pub\/78\/ef3cfa\/ce659c5d5a3d7de9724f878d.small.gif\"><\/a> Blogger <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Clay Shirky <\/span>wanted to know <a href=\"http:\/\/many.corante.com\/archives\/2006\/12\/12\/second_life_what_are_the_real_numbers.php#177308\" target=\"_blank\">how many first lives<\/a> were being spent in  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">SL<\/span>. As 2006 closed, the people behind the virtual world got very excited that <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.secondlife.com\/2006\/12\/29\/a-concurrency-of-20000\/\" target=\"_blank\">20,000 people <\/a>were using it at once, which makes it a community the size of say, my university. But, hey that&#8217;s the real world! In the weirder, wider world of gaming, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">SL<\/span> is a<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.duvet-dayz.com\/archives\/2006\/12\/29\/251\/\">virtual nonentity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now in January, some techno-journalists are waking up to the fact that not all of us are living <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webpronews.com\/topnews\/topnews\/wpn-60-20070105SecondLifeTheOtherSideoftheCoin.html\" target=\"_blank\">la vida virtual<\/a>. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Linden Lab<\/span>, which created <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">SL<\/span>, <a href=\"http:\/\/secondlife.com\/whatis\/economy_stats.php\" target=\"_blank\">displays user numbers here<\/a>, indicating that over 225,000 people logged in this past week, but first some breaking news from our <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Dungeons and Dragons<\/span> correspondent&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unfortunately, as the interview was commencing, the event was attacked by a &#8220;griefer,&#8221; someone intent on disrupting the proceedings.
