It was part of the series <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Whatever It Takes<\/span>.<\/span> <span class=\"dropcaps\">F<\/span>oreshortened <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">BBC<\/span> current affairs flagship <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Panorama<\/span><\/span> is beginning its new mini-slot by going after British <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">IVF<\/span> millionaire <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/medicine\/story\/0,,1987418,00.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Mohamed Taranissi<\/span><\/a>, recently slated by UK regulators, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hfea.gov.uk\/cps\/rde\/xchg\/hfea\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_blank\">HFEA<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m an <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">IVF<\/span> parent, and my mortgage is now a good deal bigger &#8211; thanks for asking. So do I care? Not much.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone can see the stats. Conception probabilities decline as you age, there is no magic &#8211; they&#8217;re listed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hfea.gov.uk\/cps\/rde\/xchg\/SID-3F57D79B-27491E2D\/hfea\/hs.xsl\/979.html#How_likely_am_i_to_get\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. If a clinic wants to manipulate the figures, then it doesn&#8217;t treat older women or difficult cases. No brainer.<\/p>\n<p>So my sense of outrage is limited.<\/p>\n<p>Although billed as Britain&#8217;s richest doctor, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Taranissi<\/span>&#8216;s fortune would barely make it in the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">City<\/span> or <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">business<\/span> generally. But finance is &#8216;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">complicated<\/span>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Complicated<\/span>&#8230;will we be seeing much of that on the new <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Panorama<\/span><\/span>?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A BBC film featuring Taranissi and presented by Robert Winston aired on 18 December 2006.
