On the one hand, it&#8217;s a great coup, on the other hand it&#8217;s quite possibly a cynical piece of official news management. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Roy Greenslade<\/span> makes a good case for the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.guardian.co.uk\/greenslade\/2007\/02\/sun_friendly_fire_scoop_sets_t.html\" target=\"_blank\">former point<\/a>. The only evidence for the latter claim is circumstantial.<\/p>\n<p>So how did the <span style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\">Sun<\/span> get hold of the video? The likeliest source is the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ministry of Defence<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Was it the action of a frustrated but well-intentioned official keen to allow the Hull family access to the U.S. material?<\/p>\n<p>Was it a calculated attempt to focus blame on the U.S.?<\/p>\n<p>Or a bit of both&#8230;or neither?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps on this occasion charity should win out over skepticism, but only <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Tom Newton Dunn<\/span> and whoever leaked the video will know whether that judgment is the right one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t know what to think about the Sun&#8216;s &#8216;friendly fire&#8217; scoop.
