P<\/span>odcasts get a shot across the bows from ‘viewspaper<\/a>‘ editor and accomplished controversialist Simon Kelner<\/a>: <\/p>\n

Kelner is endearingly contemptuous of multi- platform journalism, especially when it comes to pod and vodcasts. \u201cI’ve never met anyone who ever listens to pod- casts,\u201d he explodes. \u201cWhen I saw in the Telegraph<\/a><\/span> ‘Get your podcast of Simon Heffer<\/span> <\/a>discussing David Cameron<\/a>‘s latest policy announcement’, I thought you’ve got to be joking! I’m not convinced that they’re the future.\u201d [Guardian<\/span><\/a>]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Kelner’s right about Heffer’s chances of making it onto an ipod. But he’s wrong about podcasts.<\/p>\n

My daily commute into London Cannon Street<\/a> brims with City types with their headphones full of Wake up To Money<\/a>, BBC<\/span> Five Live<\/a>‘s 5.30am take on the financial markets. In January it got over 100,000 monthly downloads<\/a>. Kelner may not have the resources to fill a daily half hour for Britain’s beleaguered<\/span> and<\/span> undervalued<\/span> financial community<\/span>. But over at the Beeb…<\/p>\n

Update<\/span>: After some searching I can’t find a Simon Heffer discussing <\/span>David Cameron<\/a>‘s latest policy announcement<\/span> podcast.
