[HT: <a style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/3quarksdaily.blogs.com\/3quarksdaily\/\" target=\"_blank\">3quarksdaily<\/a>] It&#8217;s a tribute to dead journalists, but it doesn&#8217;t work for me. It reads like a cheap <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/W._H._Auden\" target=\"_blank\">Auden<\/a> pastiche. Perhaps there&#8217;s an appropriate irony there? I prefer <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Harry Evans&#8217;<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/adrianmonck.com\/2007\/01\/quoting-harold-evans\/\">valediction<\/a> for <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">David Blundy<\/span>. Still, you might have a different view. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Memorial<\/p>\n<p>We spoke, we chose to speak of war and strife &#8212;<br \/>A task a fine ambition sought &#8212;<br \/>And some might say, who shared our work, our life:<br \/>    That praise was dearly bought.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers, interpreters, these were our friends.<br \/>These we loved. These we were trusted by.<br \/>The shocked hand wipes the blood across the lens.<br \/>    The lens looked to the sky.<\/p>\n<p>Most died by mischance. Some seemed honour-bound<br \/>To take the lonely, peerless track<br \/>Conceiving danger as a testing-ground<br \/>    To which they must go back<\/p>\n<p>Till the dry tongue fell silent and they crossed<br \/>Beyond the realm of time and fear.<br \/>Death waved them through the checkpoint.
