{"id":414,"date":"2007-05-01T13:26:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-01T19:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adrianmonck.com\/?p=414"},"modified":"2007-05-01T13:26:00","modified_gmt":"2007-05-01T19:26:00","slug":"news-corp-bids-for-wsj","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adrianmonck.com\/about\/2007\/05\/news-corp-bids-for-wsj\/","title":{"rendered":"News Corp bids for WSJ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"dropcaps\">I<\/span> hate to blow my own trumpet and say <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">you read it here first<\/span>&#8230;but back on <a href=\"http:\/\/adrianmonck.blogspot.com\/2007\/01\/fox-news-business-channel.html\" target=\"_blank\">January 2<\/a> I was <strike>repeating a prediction from the <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">LA Times<\/span><\/strike> predicting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iht.com\/articles\/2007\/05\/01\/news\/paper.php\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a>. Obviously I wasn&#8217;t making clear when it might happen, the sums involved, and was simply passing on something I&#8217;d read. But hey, for a moment I felt like <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nostradamus\">Nostradamus<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>In a post hubristically titled <a href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.jupiterresearch.com\/analysts\/card\/archives\/2007\/05\/you_read_it_her.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">You Read It Here First<\/span><\/a>, Jupiter&#8217;s David Card felt like that too, but on <a href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.jupiterresearch.com\/analysts\/card\/archives\/2007\/01\/predictions_200_1.html\" target=\"_blank\">January 4<\/a>. (Although, he&#8217;d probably thought it up by himself.)<\/p>\n<p>But we were both put off the scent in February when the wily old Murdster was telling anyone who&#8217;d listen that he wasn&#8217;t interested: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As for another favorite Murdoch target, the <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Wall Street Journal<\/span> and parent company Dow Jones, Murdoch, perhaps for the first time, disavowed interest in the business daily, grimacing briefly before conceding, \u201cI must say I am cooling on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[On] The move by the Journal to place more news on the Web as it has shrunk the dimensions of the physical product, he said, \u201ctakes all the excitement out of reading it.\u201d In any event, though, he said, \u201cI don&#8217;t think I will get it, and I don&#8217;t think they will sell it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The opportunity for the <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Journal<\/span>, he said, was to compete much harder with the <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">New York Times<\/span> in areas of national and global news. So, if &#8211; big if &#8211; it goes ahead, Fox Business Channel gets content. But what happens to the Dow? Could it possibly become&#8230;the Murdoch? Just kidding.<\/p>\n<p>Further reading?
