{"id":473,"date":"2007-06-14T05:50:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-14T11:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adrianmonck.com\/?p=473"},"modified":"2007-06-14T05:50:00","modified_gmt":"2007-06-14T11:50:00","slug":"kate-adie-hates-bloggers-bbc-management-etc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adrianmonck.com\/about\/2007\/06\/kate-adie-hates-bloggers-bbc-management-etc\/","title":{"rendered":"Kate Adie: hates bloggers, BBC management, etc."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"dropcaps\">M<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">ike Mullane<\/span> has <a href=\"http:\/\/multimediameetsradio.typepad.com\/ebu\/2007\/06\/why_kate_adie_h.html\" target=\"_blank\">a nice post<\/a> about a conversation with <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/onthisday\/hi\/correspondents\/newsid_2625000\/2625875.stm\" target=\"_blank\">Kate Adie<\/a>, who he memorably describes as \u201ca sort of cross between <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Dan Rather<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Dame Flora Robson<\/span> as Lady Bracknell.\u201d<br \/><span id=\"fullpost\"><br \/>Adie, who was the <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2002\/12\/02\/broadcasts\/main531421.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Lara Logan<\/a> of her day, still presents <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">BBC<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Radio 4<\/span>\u2019s <a style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/programmes\/from_our_own_correspondent\/default.stm\" target=\"_blank\">From Our Own Correspondent<\/a>. But she\u2019s not happy about blogging or BBC bosses. She tells Mike: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c&#8230;journalists shouldn&#8217;t have any time to blog &#8211; there are too many stories waiting to be told!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other thing that Kate objects to is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/blogs\/theeditors\/\" target=\"_blank\">BBC managers<\/a> who blog during working hours. Their weblogs, she maintains, are proof they have nothing better to do.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mike refuses to name names but yes &#8211; Kate knows who you are (I\u2019m guessing via an RSS feed from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\" target=\"_blank\">Technorati<\/a>) &#8211; and if she knew you were <a href=\"http:\/\/sambrook.typepad.com\/sacredfacts\/2007\/05\/twitter_update.html\" target=\"_blank\">twittering<\/a> too!<\/p>\n<p>All right-minded folk would share the belief that BBC managers should spend more time in closed-door internal meetings debating policy and less time communicating with the general public about their plans, projects and editorial processes. <\/p>\n<p>Anyway, if not in meetings, as Kate should recall, the only thing that makes management enjoyable is the ability to knock back correspondents\u2019 expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Only kidding!<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mike Mullane has a nice post about a conversation with Kate Adie, who he memorably describes as \u201ca sort of cross between Dan Rather and Dame Flora Robson as Lady Bracknell.\u201dAdie, who was the Lara Logan of her day, still presents BBC Radio 4\u2019s From Our Own Correspondent.
