At least that&#8217;s the story that ran earlier this month in Jordanian magazine <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.almajd.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Al-Majd<\/a><\/span><\/span>.<br \/><span id=\"fullpost\"><br \/>The Jordanian weekly&#8217;s sources have this to say: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;the removal of Khanfar from the Al-Jazeera board of directors was the first step towards removing him from his position as director general of the network &#8230; his removal came in response to outside US and Palestinian pressure &#8230; the Americans and the Palestinians accused Khanfar of empathizing with the Muslim Brotherhood in general and with the Palestinian Hamas Movement in particular.<\/p>\n<p>An official close to Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas visited Doha recently and handed Qatari officials a security dossier on Wadah Khanfar&#8230;an Arab intelligence service delivered to Qatar a similar dossier that proves Khanfar&#8217;s association with the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Khanfar had been criticized in the local, state-controlled Qatari media for refusing to appoint Qataris to key roles. One of the new directors is a former editor of Al Jazeera&#8217;s website, who Khanfar apparently moved from the post.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Majd claimed Al Jazeera coverage has shifted recently to a more pro-Fatah stance.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qnaol.com\/english\/linkit.php?date=2007-05-15&#038;no=0032\" target=\"_blank\">board shake-up<\/a> came in mid-May. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsdissector.com\/blog\/2007\/06\/12\/media-couric-on-paris-more-on-aljazeera\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Danny Schechter<\/span><\/a> had the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Al-Majd<\/span><\/span> story on 12 June.<\/p>\n<p>Possible Khanfar replacements? Some people apparently got to work early. On 19 May <a href=\"http:\/\/www.echoroukonline.com\/english\/modules.php?name=News&#038;file=article&amp;sid=6246\" target=\"_blank\">this story<\/a> ran on Algerian website <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Echorouk Online<\/span><\/span>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>According to well-informed sources, the Algerian presenter <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Khadija Ben Guena<\/span> is among the candidates for replacing Wadah Khanfar, the general manager of Al Jazeera TV channel&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>According to reliable sources, Sheikha Moza the Qatari prince\u2019s wife is intent on appointing Khadija Ben Guena as the new general manager of Al Jazeera TV channel.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s worth recalling that Khadija Ben Guena interviewed Sheikha Moza, a few days ago in a talk-show broadcast by Al Jazeera channel.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There&#8217;s more blogospheric speculation about <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/foray.wordpress.com\/2007\/05\/31\/iran-lifts-al-jazeera-ban-due-to-management-reshuffle\/\" target=\"_blank\">Khanfar<\/a> here, this time in respect of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Iran<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wadah Khanfar&#8216;s apparent ousting from the board of Al Jazeera came after intervention by Mahmud Abbas and an Arab intelligence service.
