Say, the Couric <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Evening News<\/span>? Before you send in your running order and personnel tweaks, your graphics ideas and story suggestions remember you are a journalist not a network boss. This is how bosses think (my italics): <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Karmazin, the former chief of CBS (CBS), was asked for his thoughts on how to fix the once legendary but now flagging CBS Evening News. <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">\u201cWhat would I do with the CBS Evening News? I challenged everybody when I was there. I said, &#8216;Let\u2019s eliminate it.&#8217; You know, I mean who cares?\u201d he says.<\/span> \u201cThe issue was that that became impractical because if you&#8217;re a network, you&#8217;ve got to have a news organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His real answer is no less provocative. \u201cWhat I would have done, I tried to do, and that was buy CNN,\u201d he says. \u201cTime Warner (TWX) should own Cablevision (CVC). And if, in fact, they were to buy Cablevision, they would have needed some money. And I don\u2019t think CNN is a core asset for Time Warner. <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">CNN could have been a cheap way of doing the evening news. <\/span>I would say certainly one of my biggest disappointments was not being able to buy CNN.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">           [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/bwdaily\/dnflash\/content\/sep2007\/db20070911_112892_page_2.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Business Week<\/span><\/a>]<\/div>\n<p>Karmazin was stroking a white Persian cat as he spoke&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How would you fix a problem in TV News?
