{"id":623,"date":"2007-09-30T02:24:00","date_gmt":"2007-09-30T08:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adrianmonck.com\/?p=623"},"modified":"2007-09-30T02:24:00","modified_gmt":"2007-09-30T08:24:00","slug":"bored-by-burma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adrianmonck.com\/about\/2007\/09\/bored-by-burma\/","title":{"rendered":"Bored by Burma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"dropcaps\">T<\/span>he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/blogs\/theeditors\/2007\/09\/information_from_burma.html#commentsanchor\" target=\"_blank\">BBC Editors blog<\/a> has this comment from Anthony, after a post by <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Steve Herrmann<\/span> explaining the moral and logistical complexities of online coverage from Burma: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Although I\u2019m rather appalled at myself for thinking this &#8211; I find the current wave of Burma coverage very dull and uninteresting.<\/p>\n<p>In particular &#8211; absent the nice juicy massacre the media seem to be poised for &#8211; it doesn\u2019t deserve to be top of news bulletins across the BBC for the umpteenth day running.<\/p>\n<p>Days and days of something not quite happening is not news.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When a presidential announcement about the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_invasion_of_Panama\" target=\"_blank\">invasion of Panama<\/a> interrupted <a style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Bold_and_the_Beautiful\" target=\"_blank\">The Bold and the Beautiful<\/a>, a tough female colleague of mine on the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">CBS News<\/span> foreign desk took a call from a complaining viewer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMa\u2019am,\u201d &#8211; she said, \u201cif you don\u2019t think that\u2019s more important than some crappy soap opera, you don\u2019t deserve to watch television.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those were the days.<\/p>\n<p>Still, though I hate to concede it, at least Anthony is being honest.
