(<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Spoiler ahead<\/span>) It shoots straight into the top ten for cinematic journalist portrayals, though it doesn\u2019t do us any favours. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0175916\/\">Paddy Considine<\/a> plays Simon Ross, fictional security correspondent of the <a href=\"http:\/\/guardian.co.uk\/\"><span style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\">Guardian<\/span><\/a>, a reporter so drippy his photo-byline is a tea stain.<\/p>\n<p>Farringdon Road features, and there\u2019s an interesting cameo by <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alan_Rusbridger\">Alan Rusbridger<\/a>\u2019s glasses.<\/p>\n<p>Ross, whose note-taking skills make <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Andrew Gilligan<\/span> look like <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.library.uiuc.edu\/kolbp\/proust.html\" target=\"_blank\">Marcel Proust<\/a>, is hunted down by a CIA team led by <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000657\/\" target=\"_blank\">David Strathairn<\/a> (the irony &#8211; cinema\u2019s <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0433383\/\" target=\"_blank\">Edward R. Murrow<\/a> turned journo-slayer).<\/p>\n<p>Ross &#8211; a bit of a liability &#8211; is shot dead on Waterloo station (appropriately, by someone called an asset).<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s hiding in a cupboard when he loses his nerve in a scene oddly reminiscent of <a style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0034492\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bambi<\/a>, where the birds are sheltering from a hunter in the undergrowth. One of them cracks: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>He\u2019s almost here.<br \/>I can\u2019t stand it any longer. [Bang\/feathers flutter to ground]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The lessons?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>File your story online first. <\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t go and meet assassin-pursued pyschopathic contacts.<\/li>\n<li>If you do &#8211; stay in the cupboard. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good advice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I finally got round to seeing the Bourne Ultimatum at the weekend.
