It can never have been industry practice to behave so, erm, underhandedly&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Back in the day, however, TV execs did used to pay inordinate attention to \u201cviewers\u2019 calls.\u201d The editor of a famous series &#8211; still very much with us &#8211; once phoned the duty office after one of his programmes aired to leave a \u201cviewer\u2019s call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The phone was answered by the company\u2019s Chairman who happened to be working late.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just wanted to say that was one of the most powerful pieces of television I have ever seen,\u201d gushed the exec.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou made the bloody programme,\u201d came the curt reply.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The news that someone from the Jo Whiley show called in pretending to be a listener is obviously a one-off.
