{"id":770,"date":"2008-01-07T10:50:00","date_gmt":"2008-01-07T16:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adrianmonck.com\/?p=770"},"modified":"2008-12-20T19:47:50","modified_gmt":"2008-12-20T19:47:50","slug":"honesty-in-factual-entertainment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adrianmonck.com\/about\/2008\/01\/honesty-in-factual-entertainment\/","title":{"rendered":"Honesty in factual entertainment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"drop_cap\">I<\/span>sn\u2019t it time for the tricks &#8211; I don\u2019t know what else you\u2019d call them &#8211; of factual entertainment to be made as transparent in the UK as in the US?<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Guardian<\/span>\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.guardian.co.uk\/mediamonkey\/\">media diary<\/a> notes of <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.channel4.com\/food\/on-tv\/ramsays-kitchen-nightmares\/\">Ramsay\u2019s Kitchen Nightmares USA<\/a><\/span>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We would have liked the Granada America show even more had it not been followed by two qualifications in the closing credits telling viewers that events may have happened in a different order to the one that was shown on screen, and that diners may have had their bill paid for by the producers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The UK version of <span style=\"font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;\">Ramsay\u2019s Kitchen Nightmares<\/span> (also on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Channel 4<\/span>) often appears to be edited out of sequence, with rows being separated out for dramatic purposes &#8211; most glaringly in the past series on an episode featuring restaurant-owner Allan Love in Brighton.<\/p>\n<p>Enterprising media reporters might want to check back editions of the UK version to see if the Ramsay MO &#8211; \u201cgood honest cooking\u201d &#8211; is repeated in the show\u2019s production process&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Isn\u2019t it time for the tricks &#8211; I don\u2019t know what else you\u2019d call them &#8211; of factual entertainment to be made as transparent in the UK as in the US?
