Take a look at two recent pieces of critical work on TV news and go figure&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><i>Cotswold Life<\/i> pin-up <b>Adrian Gill<\/b> &#8211; on the right (yes, literally <i>and<\/i> figuratively) &#8211; reviews <b>Al Jazeera English<\/b> and news channels at the <a href='http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/article\/0,,2101-2465928,00.html'>Sunday Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The best line? <b>Fox News<\/b>, says Gill, <i>&#8220;is a series of ritualistic fights that look like a troll\u2019s advent calendar.&#8221;<\/i> I get the <i>ritualistic fights<\/i>, but <i>troll&#8217;s advent calendar<\/i>? In a revelatory aside Gill claims he knows someone in &#8220;rolling news.&#8221; Has Notting Hill fallen that far?<\/p>\n<p><b>Mark Lawson<\/b>, meanwhile, hangs his head in shame in a truly <u>desperate<\/u> piece of work, reviewing overnight news coverage for the <a href='http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/tv_and_radio\/story\/0,,1954931,00.html'>Guardian<\/a>, and tells us nothing, except what happened to <b>Sam Simmonds<\/b>. Thank goodness he doesn&#8217;t do that on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/radio4\/arts\/frontrow\/\">Front Row<\/a>.
