A tad harsh&#8230;but they do inhabit a <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">&#8216;distorted information environment&#8217;<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what former BBC producer <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Phil Woolas<\/span> MP, <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Labour<\/span> minister for community cohesion (a sort of ministerial <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prittproducts.com\/\">Pritt\u00ae<\/a>) reckons the corporation is for: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\"><span style=\"font-style:italic;\">Their job is to give a microphone to credible organisations and people, and to test those views against reality. Their role is not to take extremist views from the Right and Left and present them as balanced. That way lies madness.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What about the <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Conservatives<\/span>?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Philip Davies<\/span> MP, from the Commons culture select committee says: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\"><span style=\"font-style:italic;\">I don&#8217;t think the BBC should be a platform for people to spout hatred against this country.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Greg Hands<\/span> MP says: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\"><span style=\"font-style:italic;\">I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s how licence fee payers want their money spent.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Who the hell does Greg think he speaks for? The people who elected him or something?<\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t there any way of redeeming these lost political souls? As Peter might say: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\"><span style=\"font-style:italic;\">if we fail to reach this &#8220;lost audience&#8221; it is likely that they will have few sources of reputable information to provide a rounded view of the world. Surely failing to meet that obligation would lead to a democratic deficit \u2013 for a disengaged and disenfranchised part of society.
