Let&#8217;s try two older ones &#8211; public servants.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC is a public service broadcaster, so the standard by which its salaries should be judged is the UK public sector.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Prime Minister<\/strong> makes getting on for \u00a3190k. The <strong>Lord Chief Justice<\/strong> makes \u00a3230k. The Chief Executive of the <strong>NHS<\/strong> comes out in the same ball park.<\/p>\n<p>Hard then not to think that somewhere around \u00a3200-225k mark is a pretty good top salary for an elite public service broadcaster&#8230;or &#8211; if it helps &#8211; nearly half a <strong>Mark Byford<\/strong>, or a third of a <strong>Mark Thompson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So the BBC is cleared of paying too much for talent.
